Welcome to PTF

PTF Connections:

Welcome to PTF PTF (Parent Teacher Fellowship) is a great way for parents to get involved in their child’s education at OCSI. The purpose of PTF is to support teachers, strengthen our school community, and connect with other parents. There are many opportunities for service throughout the year in the classroom, at Holiday Market, and during Teacher Appreciation Week. We invite and encourage every family to become an active part of the PTF.

We are going to have a PTF information meeting on Friday, September 8, at 2:15 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Even if you think you can only help once during the school year, please come to the meeting! All parents are welcome to attend. We will get to know each other and talk about our plans for the year.

We will also start the weekly English Bible study for parents from October 6 at 1:30 p.m. in the PTF room. This is a great opportunity to improve your English skills and to learn about and discuss Biblical parenting values.  All parents are invited to join.

Please check our Facebook page for updates.  If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments, please email ptf@ocsi.org.

It’s been a great year

PTF Connections:

Hello, OCSI Parents!

I can’t believe the 2016-2017 school year is almost finished! It has been a great year for our school, and I am proud of the many ways you and our Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) have helped support our teachers and school community.

This year PTF funds (which come from the activity fee and Holiday Market fundraiser) were used for:
PTF provided refreshments and assistance at many school events: Elementary Math Night, Elementary Reading Night, New Parent Information Meeting, Prospective Family Open House, and the Faculty/Staff Christmas Party. Parents connected through the Motheread class and ESL Bible study, which are sponsored and led by PTF committee members.

Thank you to all the parents who have served as class parents and helped with classroom events throughout the year!
Thank you also to all the parents who helped with the Holiday Market in November. The Holiday Market is a special time for our school community to come together and celebrate the unique talents in our school and island community. Your involvement in these events makes a difference in your child’s education, and we appreciate you!

And a very special thank you to our PTF Committee for 2016-2017!
These parents met regularly throughout the year to plan and organize all the PTF events, and very little would happen without their service and commitment. Thank you Yumi Horii, Takako Manzaki, Carrie Young, and Kiomi Novak.  We are also happy to announce that Mrs. Yumi Horii will serve as our PTF Director for the 2017-2018 school year! Mrs. Horii has been very involved in PTF since her family came to OCSI, and we are excited that she is willing to serve in this position.

Thank you for the privilege of working together to help our school community
.  Have a wonderful summer, and I look forward to seeing you next school year!

Thank you!

PTF Connections:

Hello, Parents! Thank you again for the many ways you showed appreciation to our teachers and staff last month!

May is filled with events as we look forward to summer vacation.
It is wonderful to see so many parents helping at recent school activities like Kid City, Field Day, and the Junior/Senior Banquet. Thank you for your support of your children and our school community!

This spring, PTF hosted a 7-week Motheread class for parents.
Motheread is a program that uses children’s books to practice English and discuss parenting issues.  We also have an ongoing ESL parenting class that meets on Friday afternoons. Please email ptf@ocsi.org if you would like information about this class.

Thank you for helping our teachers and class parents with special end of the year activities.  I love seeing our whole community involved in celebrating everything our students have accomplished this year.

P.S. Annual Survey: OCSI needs our help. We can help by completing OCSI’s online survey. OCSI will send the link on Friday, May 19. OCSI asks that we complete the survey by Tuesday, May 30.

Thank you!

PTF Connections:

Thank you to all our parents and students who brought gifts for our teachers and staff this last week for Teacher Appreciation Week! I am so thankful to be part of a community that recognizes the hard work and service given every day to our students.  Thank you for your generosity!

OCSI is hosting a track tournament on Saturday, April 22 (staring at 9:00 a.m.), at the track in Kadena Town.  We are in need of parents to volunteer that day.  Please email ptf@ocsi.org or athleticdirector@ocsi.org if you are able to help.

Important and exciting things are happening

Read-In students enjoy the dinner brought in by our wonderful parents!

PTF Connections:

Hello, Parents! We have only a few months of school left in this school year, but some important and exciting things are happening soon.
  • Please remember to re-register your children for next school year! Open enrollment starts next week, and classes are filling up.
  • Also, continue to tell your friends about OCSI, and encourage them to apply. Your personal recommendation is very effective in reaching new families.

One of the things I love the most about OCSI is our loving and dedicated teachers. We will have Teacher Appreciation Week April 10-13 (the week after Spring Break).

  • Plan to do something special for your children’s teachers that week. You can give a small gift or write a thank you card.
  • We will be posting ideas of ways to say thank you on the PTF Facebook page.
  • We will also host a brunch for the teachers on Thursday, April 13. Please bring brunch items (breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc.) to the office that morning, and the teachers will be able to enjoy it throughout the day.
  • If you have any questions, please email ptf@ocsi.org.

Thank you for your continued support for your children and our school community!

Happy New Year!

PTF Connections:

I pray you had a blessed Christmas and New Year’s celebration. If your family is like mine, we thoroughly enjoyed relaxing together over Christmas vacation, but we were also happy to return to school and our normal routines.

This spring PTF will help make sure you are aware of opportunities to support your children in their studies and show appreciation to our wonderful teachers. It is basketball season, so try to come to a basketball game with your family and support our school. You can find the schedule on the OCSI website.

Elementary parents, I hope to see you next Monday at Kite Day! Kite Day is an exciting day for our children, and it is a fun time to reconnect with other parents. There will also be special things happening for all students during Spirit Week, so check the OCSI website and Facebook page regularly for information.

We will have Teacher Appreciation Week on April 10-13. More information about this will be coming to you soon, but if you have ideas about ways we can show appreciation for our teachers, please email ptf@ocsi.org.

P.S. Don’t forget to wear your PTF T-shirt to school events!  If you would like to purchase a T-shirt, send an email to ptf@ocsi.org.

Thanks for helping with Holiday Market

PTF Connections:

Thank you to everyone who helped with the Holiday Market! It was a wonderful day filled with music, delicious food, shopping, and fun interaction for our school community.  I hope you were able to come and the see the beautiful artwork from our elementary students. We also were privileged to have musical performances from our secondary choir club and some of our teachers!

holiday-market-2016-2Many people helped make the Holiday Market a success, and it could not have happened without the support of our parent community. PTF was able to raise ¥150,000 that will be used for scholarships and the PlaySafely Campaign!

Many classes will have a Christmas party some time in the next few weeks, so be looking for information from your class parent or homeroom teacher. Helping with events is a great way to support our teachers and students, and it gives us opportunities to connect with other parents.

While the holiday season can be a very busy time for families, I encourage you to make it a priority to reflect together on Jesus’ birth and the meaning of Christmas. I love Christmas traditions and making memories with my family, and we will be sharing ideas on our PTF Facebook page of simple things you can do as a family to make this Christmas season special and memorable.

Thank you always for your support for our school community, and merry Christmas!

Join us for Holiday Market on November 19

Holiday Market, PTF T-shirts, and more!

PTF Connections:

ptf-tshirtThe Holiday Market is almost here!  Thank you to all the parents who have already been helping with preparations! We will continue to need help in different areas over the next few weeks. Please stop by our PTF table (outside the office) on Thursday when you come to Parent Teacher Conferences. We will have sign up sheets to help at the Holiday Market, flyers to give to your friends, and our new PTF T-shirts for sale! Please buy a T-shirt to wear at school events and show how proud you are to be an OCSI parent! T-shirts are ¥2000 each.

Every Friday in October parents gathered to make crafts to sell at the Holiday Market. One parent told me, “It’s fun to come and learn something new. But the best part is meeting and talking with other parents. Before this, I only knew parents from my child’s class, but now I am meeting parents from many other classes. It is so much fun to talk together.” The purpose of the Holiday Market is to raise money for school projects, but it is also a great time to connect with other parents! I hope you will be able to join us as we have fun at the Holiday Market and meet new friends at the same time.

We are still collecting prizes for our raffle table. Please ask your favorite restaurant or bakery if they would be willing to donate a gift certificate. You may bring donations to the PTF table at parent-teacher conferences or email ptf@ocsi.org if you have any questions.

Help needed for PTF Holiday Market

PTF Connections:

Thank you to all the parents who attended our New Family Information Meeting and PTF Information Meeting last month!  It was great to meet parents and see your enthusiasm for getting involved in your child’s education.

This fall PTF is focusing on planning for the Holiday Market on Saturday, November 19. The Holiday Market is a PTF fundraiser; all the money raised is given to school projects and scholarships for seniors. This event is open to the community, and I encourage you to invite your friends and plan to attend with your family – you can buy unique items from craft vendors, make crafts together, and enjoy delicious food from local restaurants and bakeries.

We need your help with the Holiday Market!  We are still accepting applications for vendors, so if you have a small business or know someone who would be interested in coming as a vendor, please email ptf@ocsi.org.  We also have some parents who will be making crafts to sell at the Holiday Market. They are meeting every Friday in October from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria.  Anyone is welcome to join us!

Thank you for your support, and please continue to check our Facebook page for updates, or send us an email if you have any questions.
