It’s that time again to look back at an amazing year at OCSI! I believe this year has been one of growth both personally and professionally for all. We have taken great strides on pushing OCSI toward even more effectively “equipping students to walk with Jesus and impact the world for Him.”
OCSI operated with 4 divisions, used its Schoolwide Action Plan to refine its program, used a school calendar based on 180 days of instruction, had an enrollment of over 400 and a staff of over 69 full-time equivalents, and maintained its campus through modest capital projects.
The 2017-2018 fiscal year’s audit (completed by Gentetsu Shiroma Licensed Tax Accountant Office) states: “In our opinion, the Financial Statements of the Gakko Hojin Okinawa Christian School properly display the financial position as of March 31, 2018, in all important points in conformity with the Standard of the School Corporation Accounting Principles generally accepted as fair and appropriate in our country as of March, 2018.”
We have made some big decisions this year, including the hiring of a new secondary school principal for next school year. We have acquired new software for admissions, billing, and accounting to simplify our process. Improvements to our gymnasium were also made this year, with more campus improvements planned for this summer.
The elementary program continued to thrive under the watchful eye of Principal Megan Roe and in response to parent feedback, offered six elementary after school clubs included cooking, STEM, crafts/puppets, basketball, soccer, and running. Way to go, Mrs. Roe and the elementary faculty.
It is great to see our secondary students continuing to excel. I have had the pleasure of spending some time with them this year during chapel times. This year saw the computer lab renovated to provide more hands on learning and student collaboration. Thank you, Mrs. Calvin and the secondary faculty. I also want to thank Mrs. Calvin for all of her hard work here at OCSI. OCSI has been made better with her leadership and wisdom. We wish her all the best in what God has for her in the future!
It has been a pleasure for me to serve as the Board Chairman at OCSI, and I am looking forward to what God has planned for our school. On behalf of the board, I am looking forward to next school year!
Christian Siangco, board chairman
